These past couple of weeks, we have been getting some much needed rain here. This means that my poor puppies have not been getting so many hikes, but that did not stop me from thinking of ways to prepare for our July hike.
One of my big worries has been what Eros and I will eat during our journey. I think I've figured out Eros' diet for the week ( more on that when I have it finalized ). As for my diet I have been pondering and decided that the best way to know is simply to try foods and decide which I prefer.
What better time to try out dehydrated soups than on a cold rainy weekend? I picked two soups. I went with simple flavours and high calorie intake.
I started with the black bean soup. Aside from putting it in a bowl I followed the instruction. The dry stuff sniffed good enough but I got a disappointing surprise when I finally tasted it after steeping it longer than the package called for.
There were still hard bits of unhydrated beans throughout. Granted after a day of hiking this could do but unless I have no other choice I'd rather find something better than, "could do".
The next soup I was actually looking forward to. I do enjoy a good split pea soup. So I went through the same motions as before. This time no weird hard bits were to be found. The soup was as it should be only even after the addition of salt it had very little flavour.
All this to say my quest for something easy to carry and tasty to eat continues. In the meantime I will rejoice in the beauty the rain has left in it's wake.
